Thought Experiments on the Question of Being Human "AI: Machines that Understand"
This year we are collaborating with the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence. We have introduced four researchers from AI2 to local playwrights and, inspired by their conversations, the playwrights are now at work writing four brand new plays.

AIs in movies are typically single, powerful, possibly conscious entities that threaten us in some way. Actual artificial intelligence is something much more ordinary  even mundane. But what happens when our daily world is full of things that are smart? What happens when our machines understand? Understand what they see and hear? Understand what we mean when we talk to them? Understand what we want  maybe even before we ask? And what do we become in such a world?

The plays:

"Green Thumbs" by Maggie Lee (with Dustin Schwenk)
Directed by David Gassner.

"ODIA" by K Brian Neel (with Matthew Peters)
Directed by Meghan Arnette.

"TBA" by Andrew Lee Creech (with Michael Schmitz)
Directed by Jose Amador.

"Meow Mix" by Bret Fetzer and Juliet Pruzan (with Carissa Schnoenick) Directed by Rachel Katz Carey.

Staged readings of these original plays will be presented in the PACCAR IMAX Theatre on September 27 and 28. All tickets are Choose-Your-Own-Price.

An additional matinee performance at 2 9m on September 29 will be free with PSC entrance.

Each performance will conclude with our usual lively audience conversation, kicked off by one of the scientists from AI2.

In keeping with our mission to foster wider and deeper conversation about the impacts of science and technology, we want to make our events available to everyone, thus all of our tickets are Choose-Your-Own-Price. If you can afford to support Infinity Box by paying more, you are also helping make Thought Experiments accessible to those who can afford less.
